Max Bruch



Bruch, Max (1838–1920), German composer and conductor. His best-known works are his Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor (1868), Scottish Fantasy for violin and orchestra (1880), and Kol Nidrei for cello and orchestra (1881), based on a traditional Hebrew liturgical melody and written for the Jewish community of Liverpool, England (although Bruch himself was Protestant). He taught at the Berlin Academy of Arts 1891–1910.
