Business cycle

Business cycle, periodic fluctuation in the economy of an industrialized nation, between prosperity and recession or depression, with marked variations in growth rate and employment levels. Recession may be caused by overproduction, declining demand, changes in money supply, and general loss of confidence. Government interventions to moderate the cycle have become common in recent years.
