Nicholas Murray Butler
Butler, Nicholas Murray (1862–1947), U.S. educator. President of Columbia College (1902–45), he expanded it into Columbia University. He was president of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (1925–45) and, in 1931, shared the Nobel Peace Prize with Jane Addams. He also served as president of the American Academy of Arts and Letters (1928–41).
