Jane Byrne

Byrne, Jane (1934– ), U.S. politician, mayor of Chicago (1979–83). In her first bid for elected office she defeated the remnants of the Democratic machine of her former patron Mayor Richard Daley, becoming the first female mayor in Chicago's history.
