Cadmium



Cadmium, chemical element, symbol Cd; for physical constants see Periodic Table. Cadmium was discovered by Friedrich Stromeyer in 1817. It is a soft, bluish-white metal, used in low melting alloys and solders. Compounds of cadmium are used in television tubes. Cadmium sulfide is used as a yellow pigment. Cadmium and its compounds are toxic and should be handled with care.
