John Cage
Cage, John (1912–92), U.S. experimental composer and musical theoretician. He composed for “prepared piano,” attaching objects to strings to alter tone and pitch and get percussive effects. Later work included prolonged silences, improvisation, aleatoric (chance) music, and electronic music.
