Walter Chauncey Camp
Camp, Walter Chauncey (1859–1925), father of American football. As a player and coach at Yale and Stanford universities, he helped initiate, implement, and develop changes (such as the first down system and the line of scrimmage) that turned European rugby into the American game. Camp authored numerous books on athletics and physical fitness.
