Canaanites



Canaanites, people who settled Canaan, the biblical name for Palestine, c.3000 B.C. The chief inhabitants of this land until the Israelites defeated them c.1200 B.C., the Canaanites spoke a Semitic language whose writing system influenced the development of the ancient Hebrew alphabet.
