Cannibalism

Cannibalism, consumption by humans of human flesh, common throughout the world at various times in the past and still occasionally practiced, though now generally taboo. Among primitive peoples, the motive appears to have been the belief that eating an enemy or a respected elder transferred that person's strength to the eater.
