Carnation

Carnation, flower popular for buttonholes and in horticulture, subspecies of pink (Dianthus caryophyllus). Each carnation has a cluster of flowers, which are pink in the wild state. They have been cultivated since the time of ancient Greece, and their cultivation has become such a popular pastime that the American Carnation Society was established in 1891.
