Carol

Carol, name of 2 kings of Romania. Carol I (1839–1914), Romania's first king, brought economic development but no solution to political problems. Carol II (1893–1953) became king in 1930. He established a royal dictatorship to counter the growing Fascist movement, but after losing territory to the Axis powers in World War II, he abdicated in 1940 and went into exile.
