Casper



Casper (pop. 61,226), second largest city in Wyoming, on the North Platte River, at an altitude of 5,140 ft (1,566 m). First a cavalry post, the city became a trading center for sheep and cattle ranchers. Over 400 oil companies are now represented in Casper; coal and uranium ore are mined as well.
