Cattail
Cattail, wild plant (genus Typha) that grows in marshes and other wetland areas. Also called clubrushes and, on the Pacific Coast, tule-reeds, cattails have long, slender leaves and a single tall stem. The female flowers form long brown spikes. The roots, which contain starch, are edible. The soft down produced by cattails is sometimes used for furniture upholstery.
