Cattle tick

Cattle tick, brown parasitic insect (Boophilus annulatus) that lives on cattle. It carries an infectious cattle disease known as Texas fever, which in the mid-1800s threatened cattle throughout the U.S. Southwest. Control measures have all but eliminated cattle ticks in the United States, but they are still common in Mexico.
