Census



Census, enumeration of persons, property, and other items within a community, state, or country. A population census has been conducted in the United States every 10 years since 1790. In addition to population, the United States conducts a census on agricultural production every 5 years on the years ending in 4 and 9. Manufacturing, mining, and business censuses are also performed every 5 years on the years that end in 2 and 7.
