Raymond Thornton Chandler
Chandler, Raymond Thornton (1888–1959), U.S. detective novelist whose works combine wit and pace with strong characterization, particularly of their hero, Philip Marlowe, a tough but honest private detective. Among Chandler's best- known works are The Big Sleep (1939) and The Long Goodbye (1953).
