Charlotte

Charlotte (pop. 1,162,093), largest city in North Carolina, seat of Mecklenburg County. A flourishing commercial, industrial, and railroad center, it produces textiles, manufactures chemicals and cottonseed oil, and is the central market for the region's agricultural products. Johnson C. Smith University, Queens College, and a campus of the University of North Carolina are located there.
