Charlottestown



Charlottestown (pop. 15,800), capital of Prince Edward Island, Canada, on an estuary of the Hillsborough River. When the city was founded in 1720 by French colonists, it was known as Port de la Joie, but it was renamed in 1763 for the wife of King George III. Incorporated in 1875, it is now a fishing and shipbuilding center.
