Louis Chevrolet
Chevrolet, Louis (1879–1941), Swiss-born U.S. automobile racer and designer; in 1911 he designed and built (with William C. Durant) the first Chevrolet, a 6-cylinder car produced to compete with the Ford. He later designed the racers that won the 1920 and 1921 Indianapolis 500-mile race.
