Churchill River

Churchill River, formerly Hamilton River, river rising in Ashuanipi Lake in southwestern Labrador and flowing about 600 mi (970 km) through Newfoundland in eastern Canada to Lake Melville on the Atlantic Ocean. A large hydroelectric power plant, with a capacity of more than 5 million kilowatts of electricity, was completed in 1974 on the river at Churchill Falls.
