José Benito Churriguera
Churriguera, José Benito (1665–1725), Spanish architect and sculptor who gave his name to the Spanish Baroque style featuring extravagant design, Churrigueresque (1650–1740). Churriguera designed grandiose theatrical altars and the entire urban complex of Nuevo Baztán in Madrid. He was also the architect for the cathedral of Salamanca. His style influenced the Spanish missions of colonial North America.
