Circuit rider



Circuit rider, itinerant preacher of the Methodist church who visited scattered communities to conduct services. John Wesley originated the practice in England in the 18th century, and Francis Asbury adapted itin America. The term also refers to judges in the early days of the United States who were appointed to ride the circuit to hear cases.
