Roberto (Walker) Clemente
Clemente, Roberto (Walker) (1934–72), Puerto Rican-born U.S. baseball player. A star outfielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates (1954–72), he amassed 3,000 hits with 240 home runs, compiled a .317 lifetime batting average, and was a 5-time National League batting champion. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973, soon after his death in an airplane crash while helping Nicaraguan earthquake victims.
