Cocklebur

Cocklebur, any of several weeds (genus Xanthium) of the composite family. This plant grows throughout Europe and parts of the United States. It has spiny burs that usually contain 2 seeds, 1 of which germinates a season before the other. The seedlings are poisonous to grazing animals.
