Coin collecting, or numismatics, popular hobby throughout the world. Collecting involves the acquisition of coins of any particular grouping. Coins may be considered desirable for various reasons, including origin, history, rarity, and value. They are commonly graded according to quality. Categories of quality include: poor (features are mostly obliterated); good (worn, but with features mostly visible); very good (evenly worn, but with clear details); very fine or uncirculated (in newly minted condition); proof (specially struck from a highly polished die).
