Colosseum

Colosseum, or Coliseum, oval amphitheater in Rome, built c.75–80 A.D., with seats for about 45,000 spectators on 4 tiers. Begun by the Flavian Emperor Vespasian and completed by his son Titus, the Colosseum was used for gladiatorial combat and other events up to the 5th century. Though damaged by earthquakes, much of it still stands.
