Columbia

Columbia (pop. 95,802), city in central Missouri, seat of Boone County. Settled in 1821 as a stopping point on Boone's Lick Trail, Columbia has become an important medical center. In addition to the Ellis Fischel State Cancer Hospital and the Boone County Hospital, it is the home of the University of Missouri.
