Comoros

Comoros, island-state in the Indian Ocean off the east coast of Africa, between Mozambique and Madagascar. Its area is 719 sq mi (1,862 sq km). A former French colony, Comoros declared independence in 1975 and was declared a Federal and Islamic republic in 1978. In 1997 the overpopulated island of Anjouan wanted to secede.
