Comstock Law



Comstock Law, U.S. legislation, passed in 1873 and named for anti-vice crusader Anthony Comstock. The law prohibited the mailing of obscene materials, defined at one time to include information on birth control and abortion. Comstock personally was responsible for the destruction of tons of literature and pictures that he considered objectionable.
