Comstock Lode

Comstock Lode, enormously rich vein of gold and silver discovered near what became Virginia City in Nevada during the late 1850s. The lode, which eventually earned over $500 million, was named after one of its many claimants, Henry Comstock. The Virginia City mines brought settlers to Nevada, establishing a boom town and overnight fortunes. The lode was abandoned by the turn of the century.
