Continent

Continent, any of the largest land masses of the earth's surface. The number of continents is popularly reckoned to be 7: the 3 “Old World” continents (Europe, Africa, and Asia), those of the “New World” (North America and South America), and the island continents (Australia and Antarctica). The division between Europe and Asia is purely arbitrary; they are therefore sometimes regarded as one continent, Eurasia.
