Cook Islands

Cook Islands, two groups of coral islands in the South Pacific Ocean, discovered by British captain James Cook in 1773. They were made a British protectorate in 1888, and are now self-governing but linked to New Zealand. The islanders are Polynesians, related to the Maoris of New Zealand. Their chief exports are citrus fruits, jewelry, copra, pearl shell, and tomatoes.
