Cornplanter



Cornplanter (c. 1740–1836), Seneca chief who aided the British during the American Revolution. After the war he helped arrange treaties between U.S. settlers and Native American tribes in western Pennsylvania. In exchange for his signing the Treaty of Fort Stanwix (1784), the Pennsylvania legislature voted him a land grant along the upper Allegheny River.
