Marcus Licinius Crassus



Crassus, Marcus Licinius (112–53B.C.), Roman general and political leader. He and Pompey crushed the slave revolt of Spartacus in 71 B.C. Eleven years later, Crassus, Pompey, and Julius Caesar formed the First Triumvirate, an alliance that governed Rome. In 53 B.C., Crassus went to war against the central Asian empire of Parthia and was killed in battle.
