Cree

Cree, Native American tribe originating in Manitoba. One group of Cree later moved southwest, becoming Plains Cree. Another, the Woodlands Cree, remained in Canada, where they had a deer-based (as opposed to bison-based) culture. Both Cree tribes were ravaged by serious epidemics during the 18th and 19th centuries. The survivors now live on reservations in Canada.
