Lambert, Angela

(British, 1940– )

Lambert worked as a journalist before beginning to write fiction. Her novels are entertaining and easy to read, but they also question the social assumptions of Middle England, setting emotion and desire against the deadening demands of responsibility and convention.

Kiss and Kin (1997), an irreverent account of marriage, follows the experiences of two generations of a family, offering a muted vision of optimism beyond the limits of social expectation as Jennifer's father and Roderick's mother embark on a secret love-affair. Lambert's other novels include A Rather English Marriage (1992), a searching study of bereavement and the story of two very different widowers’ attempts to rebuild their lives.
