(1904–88), (Clifford Donald Simak), City, Way Station, All Flesh Is Grass, A Choice of Gods

American science fictionwriter and journalist, born in Millville, Wisconsin, where he set many of his stories. Simak created what might be described as a pastoral form of science fiction espousing a resilient humanism that eschewed sentimentality, as presented in novels such as City (1952), which is not about a city, Way Station (1963), All Flesh Is Grass (1965), and A Choice of Gods (1972). Later works included the fantasies The Fellowship of the Talisman (1978) and Where the Evil Dwells (1982).
